Kyoto-based sound artist / percussionist / Array Mbira player kita kouhei's 9th solo album "Neospecies" has been released!

"Experimental electronica ambient with the theme of the plants world"

An album in which all songs are inspired by various plants.

Array Mbira sounds like water, analog synths with a cloudy texture, deep bass, old tape noise, field recordings, etc. And this time, he actively incorporates various percussion instruments and builds an experimental ambient world that fuses electronics and acoustic sounds.

kita kouhei Profile:

Born in 1976, a musician, percussionist, and Array Mbira player living in Kyoto. An artist who creates a unique sound landscape that fuses live musical instruments and electronic music by making full use of the piano that he has been familiar with since childhood, the aesthetic sensibility of paintings that he has always spent with, and the skills of professional percussionists. He also works on commercials, documentary programs, avant-garde stage performances and music for art events.

■ 『植物の世界をテーマに描いた、実験的なエレクトロニカアンビエント。』

収録されているすべての楽曲が、様々な植物たちからインスピレーションを受けて制作されたという本作品。

北航平のトレードマークとなっている水のような音色を奏でるアレイムビラをはじめ、曇った質感を纏うアナログシンセ、深いベース、古いテープノイズ、フィールドレコーディングなどが心地良く重なるサウンドはそのままに、今回はドラムをはじめとした打楽器も積極的に取り入れ、エレクトロニクスとアコースティックサウンドを融合した実験的なアンビエントの世界を構築している。

■ 北航平プロフィール

京都市在住の音楽家、打楽器奏者、アレイムビラ奏者、猫廃人。

幼少の頃よりピアノと絵を始める。17歳でドラムを始め、35歳までプロの打楽器奏者として活動。その後サウンドアーティストに転向、39歳でなぜか世界15カ国以上でCDが発売されるという不思議なデビューを果たす。これまでに全9枚のアルバムをリリース。

その他、3人の音楽家（北航平・高山奈帆子・ミムラシンゴ）によるユニットcoconoeでは、高山奈帆子の神秘的なボーカルやコーラスをフィーチャーした、実験的でジャズテイストも感じる「歌ものアンビエントサウンド」を聴かせる。これまでに2枚のアルバムをリリース。

自然音やノイズを用いて曇ったアンビエントサウンド、様々な打楽器や生活音を用いた不規則なリズム、少し暗く少し美しく少し切ない感情表現などを融合した、どこか抽象画のような音風景が特徴。

また、ドラマやCM・ドキュメンタリー番組、舞台やアートイベントなどの音楽も手掛け、第51 回ギャラクシー賞CM部門選奨受賞。

現在、創作活動とそれを邪魔するかわいい猫との共存を模索中。
