Kyoto-based sound artist / percussionist / Array Mbira player kita kouhei's 8th solo album "A Painter's Diary" has been released!

"A quiet and atmospheric ambient world inspired by the work of painter Paul Klee"

All of the music on the album are inspired by the paintings of painter Paul Klee. Kita Kouhei's trademark ArrayMbira, which plays a tone like water, piano that looks like an abstract painting, analog synth with a cloudy texture, a toy music box, a little deep bass, an irregular and crumbling rhythm, old tape noise, field recordings of birdsong and cats purring sound, etc. are comfortably overlapped, making it a warm and quiet ambient work that gives you a sense of ephemerality.

kita kouhei Profile:

Born in 1976, a musician, percussionist, and Array Mbira player living in Kyoto. An artist who creates a unique sound landscape that fuses live musical instruments and electronic music by making full use of the piano that he has been familiar with since childhood, the aesthetic sensibility of paintings that he has always spent with, and the skills of professional percussionists. He also works on commercials, documentary programs, avant-garde stage performances and music for art events.

収録されているすべての楽曲が、スイスの画家パウル・クレーの絵画作品からインスピレーションを受けて制作されたという本作品。

北航平のトレードマークとなっている水のような音色を奏でるアレイムビラをはじめ、抽象画を描くようなピアノ、曇った質感を纏うアナログシンセ、おもちゃのオルゴール、時折聴こえてくる深いベースや不規則で崩れ落ちそうなリズム、古いテープノイズ、フィールドレコーディングによる鳥の声や猫のゴロゴロ音、などが心地良く重なり、暖かく静かで、どこか儚さを感じさせるアンビエント作品となっている。

■ 北航平プロフィール

1976年生まれ、京都市在住の音楽家、打楽器奏者、アレイムビラ奏者。幼少の頃より親しんだピアノ、常に一緒に過ごしてきた絵画の美的感性、プロの現場で培った打楽器の技術を駆使し、生楽器と電子音楽が融合した唯一無二の音風景を創造するアーティスト。CMやドキュメンタリー番組、前衛系舞台やアートイベントの音楽なども多数手掛け、第51回ギャラクシー賞CM部門選奨受賞。
